The book market and writing market have undergone major changes over the past few years. Before, your writing success depended on who you knew and convincing them to take a chance on you. Now, you are the gatekeeper of your own destiny as Nacho Libre would say. It’s becoming more and more common for writers, business owners, consultants and educators to self-publish their work as an eBook. This still requires dedication, focus and aggressive marketing, but it can bring even more benefits than a traditionally published book. Let’s look at five ways eBooks benefit their writers. You may find that you desperately need to write an eBook in order to get ahead in your field.

1. eBooks build your reputation

Writing a book on any subject positions you as an authority on that subject. For example, if you write a book on cat grooming techniques you have established yourself as a cat grooming expert. When potential clients see that you have written a book on your specialty it automatically puts you up a notch in their mind whether they read the book or not. The beauty of this is that because you are self-publishing your eBook you can skip the work of finding a publisher and instead use that time to write great content that demonstrates your expertise. Remember if your eBook is low-quality then the benefits it brings you will also be low quality. But, a high-quality eBook can take you places that you would never dream of.

2. eBooks bring clients to you

Offering a free eBook has become a common method for professionals to market their services. In general, you can provide potential clients with very valuable information in a free eBook that is 50 pages or less in length. This free information puts them in your debt and might even motivate them to contact you and order your services. Placing a simple call to action and a link to your website is the best way to take advantage of this exposure. Again, the content of the eBook must be high-quality and beneficial. If people feel like you deceived them or let them down it will only hurt your name.

3. eBooks send traffic to your blog

eBooks are an excellent source of blog traffic. Readers love to peruse free or affordable books that look interesting. If your book truly benefits them, then they will want to read more of your work. So, let them! The simplest way to send readers to your blog is by placing a link in your eBook and encouraging them to visit it. An even better method is offering them a bonus. This bonus could be a worksheet, exercise, video, recipe, extra chapter, extra book etc. Once you have selected your bonus simply create a page on your blog that is only visible to those with the link and include that link in your eBook. This simple trick can quickly gain you new blog readers.

4. eBooks earn you passive income

eBooks are an investment of time and can bring you long-term benefits. When you write an eBook and make it available for purchase using services like Amazon, Smashwords and ClickBank, it will bring you income for many years to follow with little or no effort on your part. There are hundreds of writers who make a living off of residual income from the sales of their eBooks. You might not plan on making your living from eBooks, but wouldn’t it be nice if your eBook paid a few of your bills? A second option would be using affiliate links within a free book. This option is best used in short free books that cover a very specific topic.

5. eBooks give you a voice

When you write an eBook you share your viewpoint with the world. We all have our own unique ideas and these may never be known to the world unless we share them. Writing has and will always be one of the best ways to share your thoughts. Taking the time to write out how you feel is therapeutic, satisfying and as we’ve seen above is a great way to earn money from your writing.

Think about what you would write your eBook about. How would it benefit you? Would it improve your business, income or life? If the answer is yes then don’t wait another minute! Get out a pen and paper, open a word document, pull out your chisel and blank stone tablets and start writing your eBook!
