My Life Story First Page

by Sarah Walker

I’m the woman who seems to have had a lot of sexual encounters, although few of them are actually mine. With that opening sentence, I suppose I should say that I often seem to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and that I’m not promiscuous at all. I’m known to be the middle-aged woman who wanders around – blundering without conscious thought into situations that really don’t concern me. I just don’t look where I am going or see what other people are up to.

The sexual encounter story starts at a point where I almost missed my train. I was in my late twenties then and was on my way to a life-changing job interview. The train was almost about to pull out when I tore down the platform, my high heels hindering my progress and practically threw myself onto the train. Breathless, hot and bothered, I needed to cool down and prepare myself for the interview. I searched for an empty carriage and went tearing in, only to find two people very much ‘at it’ in the corner of the carriage. Blushing profusely, I reversed quickly and moved along the train rapidly, my embarrassment shining like a beacon.

Sadly, that wasn’t my last ungainly blunder into a sneaky sexual liaison, there was my neighbour’s daughter, her father was the local vicar, and she was canoodling under cover of darkness just the other side of my wooden fence. It was the tremors of the fencing that caught my attention and of course I had to investigate. Yes, more blushes and I thank goodness it was dark. As if this was not enough, a few years later I unwittingly walked in on my husband and his secretary at the office, the lights were on and my eyesight was good, there was no getting that image out of my head. The least he could have done was to lock the door.

So now, here I am, middle-aged, carrying far too much weight and very much single, and that’s just how I like it.
